The new Simmod Lens CineShade is a lens shade/matte that slips on just like a cap. It is designed to work with Simmod’s own 80mm CineRings, or any other 80mm outside diameter cine lenses and rings, creating an ultra-portable matte solution that masks unwanted light from entering the lens. Small and handy enough to keep in the bag at all times, the CineShade is ideally suited to gimbal and handheld work.

CineShades come in a set of three as standard, each with a different-sized cut-out to match different focal lengths and aspect ratios. A felt bag is included for easy transport.
Each CineShade is constructed of aluminum with a knurled edge for 360-degree grip, painted matte black and fitted with a plastic insert for snug fit. Once fitted it not only looks good but adds an extra level of protection to the front of the lens.
Lens flares are great, except when they are not! An unsightly flare in the wrong place can ruin an image. That’s when you need the effective flare control that a matte provides.
Matte boxes are the traditional way to shade a cine lens from extraneous light, but are heavy and bulky. Stills lenses often have hoods that bayonet or screw-on but usually can’t accommodate filters and are lens-specific, so you have multiple different ones, each taking up space in your bag. These established solutions have advantages, but neither is ideal if you want to be discreet, travel light and keep your weight down.
Exchanging a hard matte in a regular matte box can also be time-consuming on-set. The CineShade is far quicker to work with. An AC or operator can just slide on a CineShade and continue shooting without interrupting a shoot.
