The Aria Mist - Black Diffusion filter from Simmod is an industry-standard softening filter for 4x5.65 matte boxes. Designed by award-winning DP Ron Sim csc, Aria Mist creates a cinematic look by lowering contrast, suppressing and diffusing highlights, while lifting shadows to help balance the tonal range of an image. In addition to its cinematic capabilities, Aria Mist can also be used for portrait and fashion photography as it softens wrinkles and blemishes and creates a flattering image of a subject. On modern and high-contrast vintage photo lenses, the effect is most effective when capturing light that diffuses softly when backlit, creating a transparent light that looks like it was taken with a high-quality vintage cinema lens. Aria Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image compared to traditional diffusion and soft focus filters.
Aria Mist Filters are constructed from 2 layers of the highest quality Schott glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then laminating each substrate. Each layer of glass is nano-coated on each side to provide anti-reflective properties and repel water, grease, and oil.
Aria Mist Filters are sold individually or in a complete set of 3 filters, each with a diffusion density of 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2.
